Xander's Hospital Stay

Around 9pm on Saturday, February 3rd, Loren, Olena and their 2 children Alexander (4) and Sophia (1) were in a head-on collision when another vehicle came headlong going the wrong direction in their lane, causing a head-on collision and sending all four of them to hospital. Loren has been discharged from the hospital with bruising and lacerations, but it is unknown when he will be able to go back to work as he has blood cysts in his kidneys that continue to be monitored. Olena has a broken back, and while the spinal cord is ok, the bone is fractured so she cannot lift/carry anything for 6-9 weeks while it heals. Sophia has been discharged from the hospital with bruising and lacerations, but her condition is still unclear and she is currently on her way back to Alberta Children's Hospital. Xander suffered a broken shoulder and torn/ruptured pancreas and spleen. After a 5-6 hour extensive surgery, they were able to repair his shoulder and spleen but had to remove 2/3 of his pancreas. He will be in the hospital for another few weeks to recover.

Loren and Olena are both self-employed, independent contractors and do not have all the benefits and safety net a lot of hourly people have. It is unknown how long Loren will be off work and if he's not working he doesn't have unemployment benefits etc. Many friends, family, and loved ones have expressed a desire to help, and as a family, we have decided to set this account up as a way to do so. All donations will be used primarily to pay for medical bills and to cover costs while Loren and Olena are not working. They have shared that any excess will be donated directly to Alberta Children's Hospital, or to other families they come into contact with during their stay.
