Anne's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

This is Angeline, Anne's daughter. I'm setting up this 'Go Fund Me' page on her behalf.

On August 7 of this year, mum was rushed to the ER room at Texas Presbyterian Hospital by a good friend of hers. She had been complaining of abdominal pains, nausea and general gastrointestinal discomfort for a while. We all thought it was a minor stomach issue. She had lap band 8 years ago and we tend to attribute every little ail she has to that. That was not the case this time.

The doctors diagnosed her with chronic liver failure. Her liver function was so poor it started to affect her kidneys as well. She is now on dialysis every other day. She was at Texas Presbyterian Hospital for a little over 2 weeks before she was transferred to the liver clinic at UT Southwestern. Part of the holdup was due to the fact that she did not have any insurance.

Unfortunately, mum had lost her job (and with it her insurance) in early June. This is about the time she started exhibiting more severe (what we thought at the time) ‘gastrointestinal’ symptoms and this affected her ability to work. We were able to secure for her insurance by taking advantage of the federal law COBRA, which mandates that your former employer has to offer you the same group coverage you had while you were in their employment for at least 18 months from the day of your termination. However, the individual is completely responsible for all the premium payments.

She is still admitted at UT Southwestern and is listed on the transplant list. The prognosis is bleak if she does not get a liver but quite good if she does. Her doctors give her less than a 5% survival chance if she does not get one within the next 3 months. With a liver transplant though, she should be back on her feet in as little as 3 months, if they are no complications. The doctors are optimistic about her chances of getting a liver fairly soon. Her MELD score, 37, puts her in the critical category and pushes her toward the top of the organ transplant list.

Financially, this has been devastating. We do not have the funds to cover anything really. Mum had depleted her savings and I just started a new position which I had to move cross country for.  The move and the Boston rental market requirements completely wiped out what little I had put aside. We need help paying her medical bills (those not covered by insurance), her insurance premium, covering the mortgage and all the other minor bills that come with living.

I know she has touched many lives in her time. And I’m praying that you would help her, in turn, in her time of need. Any little bit you can give would be appreciated.

Thank you.
