Help Rosie fight Sarcoma
For the last couple of years Rosie has had a lump on her right thumb that has caused her a lot of pain & discomfort. We saw multiple doctors (at least 8) but we were told it's in your head, there's nothing there, she's just attention-seeking, it must have been an old sprain she keeps reinjuring, & I was even accused of having munchausen's! But we kept seeking alternative doctors until one finally listened.
That doctor had us see a orthopedic hand specialist who thought it was a ganglion cyst. Then we were referred to a pediatric hand specialist.
He ordered an ultrasound of the thumb which "confirmed" our suspicions of ganglion cyst.
So since it was causing her pain we decided to have it removed & had the tissue sent for pathology to make sure it wasn't anything serious.
To all of our surprise the pathology report came back as cancer, synovial sarcoma, a soft tissue sarcoma.
On Dec 8th she was diagnosed.
From there we have had an MRI of the thumb/ hand (to determine if the mass was completely removed) , CT scan of the chest (to check for metastasis in the lungs where this cancer usually spreads first) & ultrasound of the right foot (for a suspicious nodule/ lump).
The MRI of the hand/thumb showed some residual cancerous cells and the orthopedic dr said she'll need to have her thumb amputated for the best possible results/outcome.
CT scan of the chest showed thymus enlargement, but no other areas of concern. Meanwhile we investigated a possible second mass in her right foot. The drs decided she needed a PET scan & MRI of the foot.
The PET scan showed possible areas of concern in the right foot, thymus, & scapula. That led us to getting a biopsy of the foot. Now we're waiting on those results.
All of these scans & surgery have required sedation & a full team of doctors & nurses. They have also accrued some hefty bills & we are only in the beginning.
If you can find it in your hearts please donate to our cause. We appreciate all & love the outpouring support.
