Hurricane Florence Recovery

My name is Dennis Howard I am
a disabled veteran, living in Wilmington, NC., with my wife and father, who are also a veterans. The eye of Hurricane Florence hit us directly. We live on a beautiful piece of property off Gordon Rd, that has tons of trees. Our little piece of land got knocked to the ground with the winds of the hurricane and tornados just as we started building our forever home.  We have now lost everything.  Removing trees and clearing the land will cost more than refurnishing a home. 

We not only have to replace our home but have to restock it.   We have been out of work for almost a week, the power company says they are unsure of when the power will be back on. We can’t get power back until the trees are gone. 

We are alive, we’re blessed. But we have lost everything. Our home, most of our belongings are gone. 

Out property was hit really hard during the hurricane.  Many trees down.  We had two huge trees crash into our mobile home and come completely through the roof and flooding most of our home.

Our buildings used to store our property while we built, had the roof crushed by a pine tree damaging all our property we had stored.

The mobile home and three buildings will have to be replaced including all of our property, basically we are starting over again. 

My Dad, my wife and I have worked really hard for what we have. It’s hard to have watched it disappear over night.  We are thankful we are all alive to rebuild. 

We do have insurance but due to the age and structure of what we have it will only be a small portion of what is needed to put our life back on track. 

The moneys raised will be used to purchase a home, personal belongings and buildings lost by the storm.
