Well it has been a whirlwind for the Sasek family. They woke up early Saturday morning to find sweet Olivia having a seizure in her crib. They rushed her to Genesys where they determined she needed to be transported to Hurley PICU. Princess Olivia got the star treatment and was greeted by many familiar faces Mommy recognized from when Gigi used to work at Hurley which made them feel very safe and taken care of. Dr. Nolan, the best of the best, immediately ordered a CT, spinal tap (to rule out menegitis) and EEG. All came back clear, except for the EEG. It showed a focus area on the left side of her brain. It was then decided that she would be transported to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. She would have had her first helicopter ride had it not been for the bad weather! After a rundown of her history and a few more baseline tests which revealed she has rhinovirus, she was put back on an EEG to monitor her brain activity overnight. The results showed some pre seizure activity that was stopped by an amazing drug called Keppra. She has since been taken off the ventilator and has had her NG tube removed. We are still unsure of the cause of her seizures, but we are hopeful for a full recovery and to have our little peanut back to normal soon. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, we have felt them and so has sweet Olivia. C S Mott has continued to work diligently to find the cause of her sickness and now have involved the Mayo Clinic in trying to find what is causing little Olivia’s seizures.
