A cause I care about needs help
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit the Oesophageal Patients Association Cancer Charity because they are a little known charity helping raise awareness and support patients of oesophageal and gastric cancers. Any donation will help make an impact. Please check them out Oesophageal Patients Association
Yes, the hair is going! Me and my friends (aged 17-18) are braving the shave on 2nd February to raise money for the OPA as it is a charity that has helped and is still helping my family and I.
At the beginning of 2018 my Dad was diagnosed with junctional oesophageal cancer. This is a relatively rare form of cancer. He was Stage 3, with it spreading into a lymph node. He was just 50 years old at the time. He underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy, followed by major surgery in the form of what is called an Ivor Lewis procedure. This involved the removal of 90% of his oesophagus and 3/4 of his stomach. The surgery was brutal and recovery process slow but the pathology results post-op indicated that the cancer was removed and all margins clear.
Unfortunately then in November 2019 we discovered that the cancer had returned in both lungs. This time it’s Stage 4 and incurable. Dad started palliative chemotherapy on 18 December and is ready to start his fight again.
So, any donations and contributions would be gratefullyreceived for a great charity.
P.S. I’d like to make it known if you have any kind of difficulty swallowing any type of food or feel that something is not right please, please don’t ignore it.
