Cafe/Community Center Start-Up

My name is Jennifer Olsen and I am the co-founder of One Day Revival Ministries in Ciudad Espana, Honduras.

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Latin America and arguably the most dangerous. Plagued with high gang involvement, poor education, and lack of resources, those hit hardest by a deadly mix of poverty and danger are the young people, ages 15-24. With no current alternative to a progressive and productive life, they turn to the streets- to drugs, alcohol, and gangs. We are looking to change these devastating facts and impress the other face of this coin- the face of a clean, productive, self-sustaining, independent young adult community that is filled with the love of the Father.

We are raising money to open up a coffee shop/community center here in Ciudad Espana which will serve the target age group of 15-24 years. Our goal is simple: to provide a safe, productive environment for the young people of this town. A place where they can come to get off the streets, have a cup of coffee, talk, learn, and move foward in their lives. A place where they can sit calmly and reflect. A place where they do not have to fear.

Honduras is different from the US in that it does not have places for young people to go and 'hang out'. While this coffee shop will be so much more than a hang out spot, that is its base goal- to get teens off the streets and into a safe environment. Additionally, we will be hiring 3 employees who will work beside us daily. They will learn how to run a business, how to interact with customers and the community, and how to positively influence the life of others as well as themselves.

The goal that we have set, $50,000, will be used for the initial NGO start-up costs (both in the US and in Honduras), the building materials and construction, appliances, initial inventory, a ministry car, and the first year of payroll for our employees.

We are wanting to get the coffee shop up and running before June 2016 comes to a close, which means we are looking to raise this money as quickly as possible! Once the money is raised, we will move to build and open the coffee shop. Our goal is to raise this money by March 31st in order to break ground in April.

This topic is something that is important to me because I have seen the effects firsthand of a lack of commitment to this age group. Failing to guide young people is failing to think of the future of a country and a culture. I work daily with young people who are in gangs, influenced by gangs, using drugs, trying to quit using drugs, without a family, etc. They all are searching for guidance, love, and someone who cares. We want to be those people. To be that place.

By investing in this project, you are investing in a generation of people here in Ciudad Espana, Honduras. You are helping to give them hope, knowledge, love, and a future, and for that, we could not thank you enough!
