Taking Her Home for a Proper Burial

Donation protected

Thank you all who donated. I will update you further on the funeral procedure

My beloved sister had passed away on 26 of April after battling with cancer for years; we are devastated and broken. Three years ago Peta-Gay found out she had cancer, for years she has been carrying the sickness without knowing.

The doctors did everything they possibly could, but as months went by her body was not responding well to the treatment and as such, she wasn't healing properly. She was constantly sick and barely showing results. I then decided to send her to France for better treatment, as that was deemed best and we all wanted the best for her. We were orphaned at an early age and knowing how psychologically damaging that was for us I did not want that for her kids. Being her older sister I took responsibility to take care of her, I tried, I really did.

Last year she came to France with the hope of better treatment and better care. After spending all funds we could gather that hope began to fade as we then learnt that she wasn't getting the right treatment back in Jamaica. Her cancer had been growing rapidly and had now reached to her lungs.

At first, everything went smoothly, and we were happy that she was active again and back on her feet, the smile that had left her face was back again, she was like her old self. She even got a chance to attend our Christmas dinner, something she had been praying and hoping for, over the years. Soon after her youngest son was ill and brought to the hospital while consoling him she was later re-admitted. The doctor had noticed that her eyes were looking a little dull and decided to do a checkup. The test results were as he suspected and he began another course of treatment.

Breathing and walking became harder, as again she was, trying to fight cancer. Weeks went by, we tried as much to keep her comfortable and being there to keep her spirits up.

She seemed happy, she was happy, but somehow we didn't know that deep down she wasn't getting better. Regrettably, I accepted it when she often said: “ I’m ok don’t worry”. I think we all really believed she could beat this thing and we would have her home again soon. All hope was dashed when after arriving home one evening the doctor called to inform me that my little sister, Peta-Gay, had died. Our little family has been devastated by the news. Her youngest who has been here with her in France has been distraught and is in grief counselling.

We are now faced with the challenge of after having spent all we had to secure medical attention, we now need to give her a proper burial. The remaining four of her children are still in Jamaica, therefore we would like to give them the opportunity to say goodbye by taking her body back to Jamaica to be buried. We cannot do this on our own, we earnestly need of your help in making this at all possible.
