New engine for only car

If you're seeing this you probably know who I am, but maybe a friend of a friend sent it. I'm Eric. I got out of the Army in March just as Corona hit. After searching for a job for 3&1/2 months I finally found a job.
But after draining my savings all of the bills from being unemployed hit. I had to turn in my SUV for repossession. I quickly scrambled and found a dealership willing to work with my bad credit, and got into a new to me truck.
It was great! I was able to get to and from work, and to have enough income to get by. Then disaster struck. A few days ago while driving to see family my truck decided to shake, give a loud bang, and then quit.
After having the vehicle towed to the dealership and checked out they found that I had blown a rod directly through the engine block and oil pan. There was enough internal damage they said I need a new engine. I thought "no problem. I have an extended warranty that will cover the engine." But that wouldn't come true.
The warranty company denied my claim because my oil change light came on the day before the engine went out, and I hadn't had the oil changed that same day. They claimed the engine failed because I hadn't properly maintained the vehicle.
Now I'm looking at needing a new engine so that I can get to and from work to provide for my family. This is our only vehicle and I am the sole source of income.
So how is it going to work? I have found a place that I can buy a crate engine from, and have a few friends who have said that as soon as the engine arrives they will come over and do the swap. That brings the cost down quite a bit from the original $12,700 that I was quoted.
Normally I wouldn't reach out here, but I'm at my last hope. I applied for a few loans and all of them were denied.
