WOW Rescue Society - Fita Chinese Rescuer

WOW (Woofers of Wuhan) Rescue Society was created to support Fita, a young dog cat rescuer based in Wuhan China.

Fita is one of the four featured Chinese rescuers of Yoga Stops Yulin, a Global Yoga Fundraiser event to help victims of the Dog Cat Meat Trade in China and across SE Asia.

 

Woofers of Wuhan (WOW) Rescue Society was created in the fall of 2021 by four Canadian women in support of Fita, a

young Chinese dog/cat rescuer based in Wuhan, China.

 

Fita has been rescuing dogs since 2018 and has been globally recognized for her outstanding work in animal welfare in

China. SPCA International awarded her a prestigious grant in 2020 to assist her with the high cost of building a proper

shelter for her 350 + dogs and 84 cats in Wuhan, China.

 

Her story captivated audiences worldwide when TIME did a feature on Fita at the height of the global pandemic when

she was left caring for over 157 dogs in her home, many of which had been abandoned by their owners due to the

lockdown during the country’s Lunar New Year holiday.

 

WOW Rescue dogs are provided with quality veterinary care; spay/neuter surgeries, rehabilitation, and access to a

free-run indoor-outdoor shelter environment.

 

Background

In 2018, Fita and an American citizen co-founded Furry Angels Haven Wuhan, rescuing dogs and cats off the harsh streets of Wuhan and from the local dog meat trade. In early 2021, their partnership ended with the US citizen maintaining full

ownership of Furry Angels Haven's social media. Four Canadian women, also followers of Furry Angels Haven, decided to

step up and help Fita continue her rescue work. That’s how Woofers of Wuhan Rescue Society came into being.
