The Worrell's House Fire

Donation protected
On Friday December 15, tragedy struck the Worrell family once again in 2017. After cooking dinner for some close family friends, Lynn went into the living room and lit a candle. The family dog came in behind her and jumped, knocking the lit candle out of her hand. When the candle fell, it ignited the live wreath they had and then spread to the Christmas presents and live Christmas tree, igniting them almost immediately. Lynn pushed the dog outside to safety as she yelled for help. Three people ran into the living room with water, but the fire was so hot that it made no difference. Shannon ran inside with the water hose, which began melting in his hands as he attempted to extinguish the fire.

Thankfully the family, friends, and animals were all able to escape safely, but the house and all of its contents were a total loss. Some friends happened to be riding by and saw the fire and thankfully stopped. They jumped into the family's vehicles and moved them all to safety, or else they would have been lost as well.

Anyone who knows the Worrells knows that they give 110% to anyone and everyone they know. They volunteer at Lake Waccamaw Rescue in their free time as Advanced EMT's. They're there every night, every weekend, and many days throughout the week, giving their time and skills to help the people of their community. Anyone who knows them, loves them and the heart that they have for everyone around them.

This year has been one of tragedy for this family. In February, Lynn's son Tyler was involved in a terrible car wreck, which Lynn, Shannon, and the Lake Waccamaw staff responded to. Tyler was in bad shape, and was flown to Grand Strand Hospital, where the staff there had to perform CPR twice and perform multiple surgeries. The family was told that he would more than likely not make it through the night, but thanks to the prayers that were given up, God saw fit to give Tyler back to his family. 19 days later he walked out of the hospital!

2017 has been a tragic year for this family, which was only made more tragic by the events that happened on December 15th. The family is extremely thankful to be alive and for the lives of their animals that were spared. Also, they're very thankful for all of the calls, texts, and prayers that have been shared on their behalf.

They are still awaiting to hear from the insurance company and have a long road ahead of them. They will have to find new housing and replace absolutely everything that was in their house. This is obviously a difficult time, especially here at Christmas, but the coming months will be trying as well. Thank you for all of your prayers, love, and support for this amazing family.
