With love for Carolyn

Carolyn Spronck was our son's best friend for the last 11 years. On October 11, 2016 she had a massive heart attack while in the hospital for what her parents thought was just a mild infection, complicated by her having Type 1 diabetes (commonly called juvenile diabetes). Her mother got the call that Carolyn was in cardiac arrest and would probably not make it, when she and Carolyn's dad were getting ready to go in to maybe take her home. Carolyn is survived by her mom Terry, her dad Michael, and her older brother Michael. I am starting this fund on their behalf to help with funeral and memorial costs. No one plans or is prepared to bury their child.
Carolyn was a bright, beautiful 17 year old. Her favorite colors were red and black. She loved performing in Marching Band competitions where she played the clarinet. Her favorite show was Dexter, and she loved playing League and Overwatch. Her favorite band was Steam Punked Giraffe, and she loved to cosplay as Rabbit. She had a smile that was like sunshine. She was spunky, and funny, and sweet. She would call me "mom", just like my son would call hers "mom". She was part of a very tight knit group of friends who went ice-skating on Fridays, mall shopping on Saturdays, the pool in the summer,...But unlike other teenagers, Terry, Leslie and I would joke about how our kids didn't mind us hanging around them, if anything they wanted us with them. We would laugh because one minute they'd be mature 17 year olds, the next they would be wearing pig hats on their heads or meowing like cats.
I am hoping that this fund will help this wonderful family through the financial strain that comes with this heartbreaking loss. It cannot bring their daughter back, but it can alleviate additional consequences piling up from her passing. I wish all of you had a chance to know Carolyn and the Spronck family, and you would understand the appreciation and gratitude that they would express. And on behalf of my son, and as a mother of five, and someone who loved this girl, I personally extend my deepest heartfelt thanks.
