Wise Family Medical Needs

Donation protected
Gaberiel Evan Wise, was born August 20, 1999.  He was born with a number of medical issues, spina Bifida with Arnold Chiari Malformation Type 2.  He has had multiple surgeries, beginning with his first when he was only 1 day old.  Gabe is dependent on a ventilator due to Central Hyperventalization.  He spent the first 7 months of his life Childrens NICU and Pulminary Care Unit.  The first 4 years of his life he had to be on the ventilator 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  In 2003 he was able to be taken off the ventilator a few hours a day and he was able to breathe on his own.  Currently Gabe is on his ventilator full time again because he is sick.

Even with all of Gabe's medical issues, he continues to be an active member of our community.  He meets and greets members and visitors at our church, where he loves to sing specials with our other members of our church.  He is the assistant coach for the Jr. High Football team in Ashville, and he is the Honorary Chief at our local Shoal Creek Volunteer Fire Department.  There is never a time when this young man is not smiling or laughing, we truly believe that Gabe was put on this earth to bring happiness to everyones life.

Gabe is unable to walk because he is paralyzed from his waist down.  4 years ago a van was donated to this family by a wonderful group of people.  It was truly a God send.  It has enabled this family to become much more mobile and given them the ability take Gabe places to do things that were very difficult when all they had to load his wheelchair and medical equipment into the back of a pickup truck.  Currently they are unable to use the Van, because the hydralic system leaks and it is unsafe to attempt to load Gabe and his wheelchair on to it.  The airconditioning unit has stopped working so it is very difficult for Gabe to be able to breathe while in the van.

Currently this family is homebound due to the issues with the van.  When they do need to get Gabe to his medical appointments they have a difficult time putting his chair into the back of a truck and loading Gabe into the cab.

These funds will enable this family to become mobile again and breathe easy knowing that they have dependable equipment to provide any assistance that their son may need.
