Wind-Up Penguin works with refugees in Greece

Tax deductible
Hello, we're the Wind-Up Penguin Theatre Company!
We are performers trained at the UK's best conservatoires, who believe that vulnerable children in the world are those who need the Arts the most. We have a proud eleven-year history of making disadvantaged children smile, hope, and thrive.

We're a grassroots, volunteer-run cohort of young performers who have shared professional-standard music-theatre shows with over 50,000 of the poorest children in the world: in orphanages, hospitals, refugee centres, and rural schools.

This spring, we - Abby, James, Ruby, Elly and Lauren - shall share our new music theatre show with refugee children in Athens and surrounding areas.

Tens of thousands of migrants are currently stuck in Greece's refugee camps and squats. Among these, many children, having fled their war-ridden countries, are confronted daily with the angst and trauma of having no place to call home, and no guarantee of a safe future.

No child should go through such distressing events at such a young age.

At Wind-Up Penguin, we want to ensure every child gets access to the crucial elements of a healthy childhood: laughter, stories, games, and a safe space to play and be creative.

So five of us, music, drama and dance students from the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama are devising a new piece of music-theatre and puppetry to bring to children in refugee camps in Greece from the 3rd to the 13th of April.

We will be performing; bringing smiles and inciting the creativity of hundreds of children, in camps and squats around Athens, where thousands of refugees are currently stuck.

Our company is run entirely by recent graduates. We fund and fundraise the costs entirely by ourselves, which is why we're asking for YOUR help. Any donation, even the most modest, will help enormously towards covering the necessary costs for us to deliver our inspiring, life-affirming performances to children that need it most.

Thank you!

from Abby, James, Ruby, Elly and Lauren x
