Wiltshire coach support blind bowler at World Cham
Donation protected
My name is Nigel Morgan, and I am a Lawn Bowls Coach, Wiltshire County Coach and Bowls Wiltshire Development Officer. My reason for emailing you is I have been selected to direct a blind bowler at the upcoming International Bowls for the Disabled World Championship in mid-May 24 and would welcome publicity and funding. We must find £2300 each by April.
Just some background and the photograph.
I first met Keith Brenton in 2019 and since then we have formed a team and competed at a number of National and International competitions. Visually impaired sports have classifications of B1 to B4. B1 is no light perception or severe sight impairment, and the bowlers must wear totally blacked out glasses to ensure that all the B1 bowlers are the same. Keith is B1 and has no light perception at all.
Since we met, Keith records are:
2023 IBBA (International Blind Bowlers Association) B1 Men's Singles Bronze medallist and B1 Pairs bronze medallist
UK Outdoor B1 Men's Singles Champion
England B1 Singles Champion - retained for the fourth time running.
England B1 Pairs Champion with Richard Carey (Royal Wootton Bassett)
2022 UK Indoor B1 Men's Singles Champion
England B1 Singles Champion
England B1 Pairs Champion with Richard Carey (Royal Wootton Bassett)
Open B1 Singles Champion
England Indoor Pairs Champion with Sheila Brennan (Gateshead)
2021 England B1 Singles Champion
England B1 Pairs Champion with Margaret Cusker
2020 No Competitions
2019 England B1 Singles Champion
Keith's sight has deteriorated over the years and in the past, he has been:
2005 IBBA World Champion B2 Singles Champion
2001 IBBA World Champion B3 Singles Champion
1996 Paralympic B3 Singles Bronze medallist
In VI bowls a VI bowler is allowed a Director on the green to assist the bowler in finding their line, adjusting their length, and shot selection.
We have been selected by DBE, Disability Bowls England, to represent England in the IBD World Championships in South Africa.
To compete we must raise the monies ourselves to compete. The total cost is £2300, and I have raised £750 and would welcome any contributions so that I can help Keith hopefully bring back the gold medal for England.
He is currently.
