Will's Chiari Journey/ Surgical Fund

My husband William was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation a little over 2 years ago. For those of you who don't know Chiari is an overgrowth of the lower part of the brain that sticks out of the skull and puts pressure on your spinal cord causing a long list of symptoms. One of his worst symptom is these horrible debilitating head pains that come and go throughout the day and they last anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes. They are also brought on by laughing and coughing (and if you know him personally he's always joking and laughing). They've gotten worse over time in length and frequency. They cause excruciating pain that has really impacted the way he functions on a daily basis. When he was first diagnosed the MRI showed a 5 millimeter herniation out of the skull and his most recent MRI done mid-march showed a 15 millimeter herniation. So in 2 years time the herniation of the brain has tripled in size which would explain the increase in pain and frequency of the episodes. He has problems with balance, gets dizzy, and has difficulty swallowing. His neurosurgeon said because of the progression and his level of pain the only option is surgery. There are not medications for this condition. The surgery is a cranial decompression where they will remove a portion of his skull near his neck cut into the dura of the brain and place a synthetic patch and trim the C1 vertebrae  to allow some extra room for the herniated portion of the brain and hopefully alleviate enough pressure off of the spinal cord to ease the pain. Recovery time varies but is expected to be four to six months before he can resume work and regular activities and a full year before working out or doing anything more extreme. I started this GoFundMe to help with the large medical expenses, physical  therapy and to help with everyday living expenses since he will be out of work. We had to move out of our apartment because we couldn't afford our rent and utilities while my husband is out of work. We are staying with family until he's medically cleared to return to work. Everyone who knows Will knows he's an extremely hard worker and does everything to take care of our family. He works a full time job and also works overnight to support our family of 5. Right now we just need some help. All prayers and donations are greatly appreciated. No amount is two small and if you can't donate please share.
