The William Stewart Memorial Fund

William achieved so much during his 93 years and had an impact on the lives of many, many people; during his nursing and counselling careers; from his tutoring; through his books; on people he met in his day-to-day life. For the last four years, arguably his biggest impact of all has been on the lives of the community in Ibuluma, Northern Malawi, many of whom are orphaned children and all of whom were living in extreme poverty and hopelessness. With his former student and friend, Levison Mlambya, the charity which carries William’s name was founded, and the tiny acorn started to grow, to bear shoots, then branches, and is on its way to becoming the mighty oak of his vision. He has left us in body, but his spirit remains, and his work will be carried on by the teams in the UK and Malawi, with even more diligence, to honour William’s memory. The crowdfunder Where There’s a Will There’s a Well has now finished and Team Holst’s JustGiving fundraiser too. We would like to thank them and all our other fundraisers who have been so generous with their time and effort. Again, we thank all donors who contributed such an amazing amount of money, enabling the Foundation not only to have the well, tank and standpipes installed much earlier than we had imagined, but shower blocks too, the work for which is now under way. The sudden death of William has left a huge void in the lives of so many. We have had messages asking if we can do a fundraiser in his honour – to remember him, to thank him for his contribution to their lives and to ensure that the Foundation flourishes with vigour. And so we are introducing The William Stewart Memorial Fund.
