On December 14, 2017 a CARE Ambulance crew, William Austin and Roger D. (Doug) Jones, were responding to an emergency, an unresponsive patient in Dallas County, Alabama. During the response they were struck head on by a tractor trailer that had crossed the center line and was now traveling in their lane. This caused a horrific crash that caused severe injuries to William and Roger. Both of them were airlifted from the scene and flown to a trauma center for the treatment of their injuries.
William sustained serious injuries and his recovery period will be a long one.
William is a hardworking 23 year old man that loves his job. He loves his family and does his best to provide for them. He is an Advanced EMT and is currently enrolled in Paramedic school at Trenholm State Community College. He has worked for CARE Ambulance since September 2016. He has quickly become a good EMT and is very proud to be in paramedic school. While speaking with William at the hospital he expressed his disappointment at the disruption of his education. He truly loves EMS.
The road through therapy and recovery will be painful and expensive. Many unseen expenses will arise. There is no way to predict when William will be able to return to work. We, as his EMS family, want to make sure that this devastating injury does not cause any financial hardship for William or his family. Please take this opportunity to contribute to this cause. William will need emotional and financial support to fully recover from this incident.
