Will Mahon Open Heart Surgery Fund
Donation protected
On March 9, 2018, Will Mahon was rushed into emergency open heart surgery after doctors discovered an infection on his bicuspid aortic valve, which had also spread to other areas of his heart. The surgery was a risky one, with the surgeon giving it a 50/50 success rate.
Thankfully, the surgery went well. The surgeon replaced Will’s aortic valve with a mechanical valve, removed infected tissue, and repaired holes in the heart caused by the infection.
A week later, Will has made great progress. He is continuing to reach the benchmarks necessary to be discharged from the hospital. He will be on IV antibiotics for another 5 weeks to insure the infection is completely removed from his body. He has a long road to recovery ahead of him which will keep him out of work for as long as 2 months.
Will moved to the Portland, Oregon area at the beginning of this year with his girlfriend, Ruby, after he was offered a position at FOX 12. Unfortunately, because of his recent hire date, Will is not eligible for paid sick time and has limited paid vacation time available. Ruby, who is in the middle of her own job search, will have to put the process on hold as she aids in Will’s recovery.
Between stacking medical bills, and the temporary absence from work, Will and Ruby need help to support themselves through this difficult time. They want to express their deep gratitude for any assistance you are able to offer. Thank you!
