Sweat to Protect: Wildlife Waystation

It is one thing to talk about making a difference - it is another to take action and make it happen.
That is why I have decided to sweat to protect wildlife and pour all I have into my first ever Spartan Race. On January 27th, I will be competing with hundreds of other women in my age group as I run, jump, and climb to the finish in the name of the animals of the Wildlife Waystation.
The Wildlife Waystation is a wildlife sanctuary in LA where over 400 different species of wildlife are housed.
The animals of the Waystation all have important back stories leading to their arrival. Some were taken in by the sanctuary after their owners realized they could not properly care for them - some are retired from their work in the film industry - others were taken in from laboratories who once used them for research purposes. These are just a few examples, but their stories are often ones of hardship and misguided human understanding of just how wild these wild animals are.
Regardless of their stories, my heart - along with that of all the the staff and volunteers at the Waystation - beats for the happiness and safekeeping of each of these animals. That is why we are teaming up together to raise funds that will go directly to the animals.
Many animals at the Waystation could benefit from enclosure expansion as well as additional enrichment activities and opportunities. Advancement in enclosure enrichment is SO CRUCIAL to the well-being of ALL wildlife in captivity and is always able to be improved upon.
The staff and volunteers work hard daily to provide for each of the animals and do all that they can to open their doors daily to all wildlife in need. They are doing as much as they can to provide for the tigers, lions, bears, chimps, foxes, hyenas, wolves, turtles, hawks, horses, and many other species they maintain.
That is why any additional help we can provide together through funding will ultimately change the life of each animal impacted.
So... Here is what your donation will do:
1. Provide the Waystation with the crucial resources necessary to provide enrichment tools and activities for the wildlife on site.
2. Allow for the future expansion of enclosures to give current and incoming wildlife an increasingly "natural" living habitat.
3. Reduce the overall amount of stress animals in captivity experience.
4. Provide continued educational opportunities for staff and volunteers to continue gaining knowledge in species specific enrichment strategies.
Please, it is from the bottom of my heart that I believe in this cause. I will be pushing myself to the limits to help the wildlife as I sweat to protect. I will be spending many hours training, believing, and praying that we can raise the funds to give the Wildlife Waystation an extra financial boost.
