Hi everyone! My name is Nicole Broadwell, I am a Physical Education teacher at Washington High School in Tacoma Washington. WHS is an extremely diverse, Title I school with close to 80% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. I am writing this to share that I am competing at USAPL Raw Nationals on Thursday, October 11th at 2pm in Spokane, WA. This year I would like to use this platform as a fundraising opportunity to give back to our community, specifically our high school weight room. Over the past few years we have created a weight training culture that has resulted in more and more students signing up for our Strength & Development and Athletic Conditioning classes. Now, we are finding that we need to continue to expand the equipment in our weight room to better suit the needs of all of our students. However, our budget doesn't allow for much expansion at this time. We are hoping to raise money to purchase a mounted projector for the weight room to continue to help students learn technique, objectives, and weight training principles. A mounted projector is important for the safety of the students and being able to utilize all of the space in the weight room for movement. We would also like to purchase new bars to help our growing numbers.
The weight room environment is for ALL students. Before school, during school and after school weight lifting programs are available. We have a wide range of lifting levels from beginner to advanced. Our more advanced lifters serve as peer-leaders in the weight room, and help other students learn technique and form. This projector will benefit so many of our students at WHS.
