Who's Your Teacher Post-Prod

Donation protected
As you know, I retired from teaching with a goal to impact the education system as a filmmaker. I’ve been working very diligently to accomplish that since 2016!

I am currently in post production on the third iteration of the project I started working on three years ago, now titled "Who's Your Teacher?"

I have turned hours upon hours (upon hours) of footage and one-on-one interviews into a 30 minute “pilot” shot by Naptime Productions and edited by Kyle Boston, who currently edits at Duplass House, for Room 104 on HBO!

And now, for some more VERY GOOD news:

I reached out to a composer named Catherine Joy whose documentary composing credits include Wild Wild Country, Love, Gilda and RBG.

She’s the REAL DEAL in the documentary film world.

She replied, invited me over, we watched my film together and she’s... beyond thrilled about it. She thinks I have a shot at big film festivals whose names I'll keep to myself for now, and she talked more about where she sees it going, and she sees it going ~places~. Needless to say, I am incredibly encouraged for her feedback, specifically!

Okay, so, my work ethic, networking skills, qualifications, and charisma, have gotten me this far without a budget (which is pretty far if you ask me!) but now I've reached the stage of the process  where I need to raise MONEY for the following four things:

>Catherine's composing expertise
>Post-Production sound engineering
>Festival submission fees
>Related podcast recording space rental fees

I have done EVERYTHING in my power without asking for this, but it is time.

My goals with the completed project are to:

1. Submit to as many festivals as I can afford to submit to
2. Turn this project into a documentary series which explores sex ed across the country and overseas
3. Team up with new folks who are creating better curriculum for their communities and join them in the charge
4. Use my credential and experience with curriculum creation to improve our education system in any way I am able to

A Little Background on the Project:

I tried to create a Human Relations class from scratch when I was teaching, to teach kids about themselves and each other, something that is SEVERELY LACKING in our school system. I taught kids how to understand and process their emotions and desires, how to combat anxiety, how to express themselves safely, how to be good to one another, how to empower themselves, etc. The course was POWERFUL, but very few students had access to it, because it was extracurricular.

I have chosen to use the current model of Sex Ed as an avenue towards something more like this for all kids, but I want to lend my voice to *drastically* build upon the current structure of Sex Ed.

There MUST be a publicly accessible class for students to peacefully understand themselves and each other, and yes, human sexuality and gender are a big part of that understanding, regardless of your beliefs.

Here is a direct quote from my film:

"I would like to envision a world in the future where there is a mandatory class in every grade level that just teaches people how to be people. And I don't think we should call it sex ed."

I will continue to work on making that goal a reality.

Anything you are able to contribute will be put to good use. I APPRECIATE YOU READING THIS AND HEARING ME and I thank you.

All my love and positive effort,
