Change the world one White Cane at a time!
My name is Sara Hernandez and my background is in Blind Rehab. At the beginning of this year I connected with a small non-profit for the Blind in Tijuana, MX known as PRIISMA: Project for the Social Inclusion of People with Visual Impairment into Mexican Society. PRIISMA provides instruction in Orientation & Mobility (O&M), Braille, and Sensory Awareness to adults and children with visual impairments and blindness.
This past June, a couple of my O&M colleagues and I traveled to Tijuana, MX and provided O&M instruction and White Canes to students who had been on a five-month waiting list. Many of the students and their families received O&M training for the very first time.
Unfortunately, due to the limited resources of the small non-profit they are unable to provide students with White Canes when they need them. This is where you come in... from NOW until SEPTEMBER 30TH we are raising funds to purchase 100 white canes and 25 talking watches for PRIISMA. Our next trip is scheduled for October 17th.
