Angel came to us from the animal hospital on April 17, 2017 as a foster. She needed 24 x 7 care and supervision, as she had a broken pelvis and hip, broken teeth and toenails. She was dirty and stinky and not happy about being in a crate. Not happy at all.
We believe Angel got caught under something, or something fell on her. She chewed and pawed her way out of wherever she was stuck and was found by animal control, unable to walk, on the streets of downtown Phoenix. She was lactating, but no puppies were found with her.
Angel had a long, arduous rehabilitation period, as she HATED being confined. In order to heal, she had to be on 24 x 7 crate rest for six weeks,. We went outside on leash for nature’s call with the help of a sling, but then straight back to the crate. I sat beside her most of our waking hours, working via laptop. If I left her side for ANYTHING, she’d try to chew her way out of the crate. As it happened, she destroyed two crates during rehab, and even managed to escape the crate a couple of times.
By the time her rehabilitation was complete, we were foster failures. No way was Angel going anywhere – she is ours through and through.
Today, Angel is a happy, healthy girl. She does a happy dance at EVERY mealtime, has learned the crate is not her enemy and is very well behaved. She has a very good life here with us. Maybe we should have called her “Shadow”, as she is my constant companion.
We were lucky to be in a position to foster Angel, and give her a forever home. She is as much a part of our family as if we’d raised her from puppyhood. And she knows it.
