Wheelchair Rugby Road to GB Luke Collier

I am Luke Collier, a current GB Talent Player looking to break into the GB Elite Team post Tokyo. I'm looking to raise funds in order to pay for equipment that is essential to getting the best out of my bespoke wheelchair, I will also use the funds to pay for training, court hire, travel and accommodation to and from events and also treatment in order to keep me performing at high levels.

This is my story:

I was invited to a wheelchair rugby session in August 2017, at the time I had been playing wheelchair basketball and didn’t think I’d enjoy or love wheelchair rugby anywhere as near as I did basketball, although, from the first training session onward I found a real passion for the sport, the big hits of the chairs and the tactics of the game where all so impressive to me, alongside the adrenaline! 5 months later I was invited to join the regional invite only training, from there my wheelchair rugby career sped up, just 2 months after my regional invite I was invited to my first GB talent camp, the weekend was a success to say the least. I was invited back for another GB talent camp in December 2018, as a fill in for one of the talent players who couldn’t make it, this camp was special as we mixed in with the main GB team and created a fun but competitive tournament where the GB and the GB talent players would join together to make their own teams. Again, the weekend was very successful, my team won the tournament and I was named the best talent player of the weekend, which was strange to me as I wasn’t even an official talent player and I was by far the least experienced player there. This success quickly led to January 2019, where I was made an official GB talent player. To this day I am still a GB talent player with high hopes of a GB elite trial in the near future for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
