Wheelchair for Ryan

I'd love to raise enough money to purchase a new wheelchair for my son Ryan.
Our local wheelchair service is unable to provide him with a wheelchair that is fit for purpose, especially for an 18 year old who spends every waking hour in the chair.
Ryan has been severely disabled, both mentally and physically since birth. He has never walked or stood independently and requires a wheelchair that fits him perfectly, in the same way that you and I need shoes that fit us well.
As the time to leave school fast approaches, we need to look to the future and get him a wheelchair that makes getting around easier for him. He also needs a chair that will help to develop his independence.
Ryan has very poor vision and has always been refused the opportunity to have a powered wheelchair but I think it's only fair that he is given the chance to keep up with his peers both at school or college and as he moves on in life.
Ryan will never be able to leave the house without myself or a carer but having suffered irreparable damage to my back through pushing him around for 18 years, it would make my life much easier if that pressure was taken away from me on a daily basis.
Ryan is a quiet, unassuming, happy young adult who loves Disney, trains, lifts, Aston Villa and anything that involves pressing a button. He is fascinated by cause and effect so having a wheelchair where he is able to control it's movement would help his development immensely.

We have identified a wheelchair that would be great for Ryan and today I have been told that we are looking at a cost of between £5,500 and £7,500 depending on the adaptations and accessories Ryan will need.
We will be getting a full quote in the next few weeks and I will adjust the fundraising total accordingly.

I was very reluctant to set up this page as I'm not very good at asking for help, but having received a huge amount of support and encouragement from both friends and professionals I have decided to go ahead as this could genuinely change Ryan's life.
Ryan and I will be extremely grateful for any help you can give and every penny raised will go towards the purchase of the wheelchair. We will be seeking additional help from charities to reach our target.
