Update! Wheelchair bike to join my kids for bike rides

Just to give you all an update on what is happening with your generous donations..... it’s taking me longer than expected to decide on exactly the right piece of equipment, and it’s proving to be a complicated decision! These things are more expensive and confusing than I had previously thought, and many companies are wanting to charge hefty mileage for coming to do a demo for me down here in Cornwall. I don’t want to rush and buy the wrong piece of kit, it needs to be something I can get lots of use out of and keep up with the kids on their adventures.

I’m going to keep the fundraising page up for now as the donations past the original target Will all be put towards the total cost, and are so appreciated - thank you so much again.

Hi, my name is Lizzy and I’ve never done my own fundraising before, in fact I'm finding this quite awkward!

I have severe CMT disease, type two. Unfortunately, I inherited two copies of this gene fault, just to be extra complicated. CMT is a nerve disease, causing muscle wasting. This means I haven’t been able to walk since I was about 16 (even then it was questionable).

I'm raising money for a Wheelchair power add-on to attach to my current manual wheelchair, which will enable me to join my children and their dad on family bike rides where we live, in Cornwall. My current indoor/outdoor electric power chair only manages 4 mph which means I cannot keep up with three active children on their bikes! Also, the structure and weight of my power chair, although sturdy and reliable, means it simply does not cope with muddy, off-road conditions. I often get stuck on muddy, bumpy ground. The kids are looking forward to me having something I can use to keep up with them, having adventures in the woods, on the beach and going on long trips along with our two whippets.

But unfortunately, despite wheelchair Power add-ons being less than half the size of a typical electric bike, they cost more than double the price.
