Europe Trip

Ever since I could remember, I have always loved literature. My nose would be pressed against the soft pages of the book and my mind would travel to places that my books would take me. Reading was my passion because it broadened my horizons by allowing me to understand people and took me to places that I could never imagine. I never thought that I would have the opportunity this summer travel to some of the places that I have read about.

In July, I am invited to attend the Centropa Summer Academy
(https://2019.centropasummeracademy.org/) a teacher conference hosted in Berlin, Germany. 

I will be spending a few days in Berlin learning more about the Holocaust and civil society with other educators from other countries.  

After attending the Centropa Summer Academy I will be interning at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, Netherlands until August.  I have volunteered with the Anne Frank traveling museum for the past three years which traveled to different schools in SC to help middle and high school students understand the dangers of racism/discrimination and the importance of standing up. Because of my involvement, I was also given the chance to intern with Anne Frank House.  (https://www.annefrank.org/en/) 


What will I be doing in Europe:
-attending a teacher summer academy
-networking with educators from over 15 countries
-creating lessons that will help my future students understand social advocacy and the history of the Holocaust
-professional development
-interning at the Anne Frank House
-learning more about the history of the Holocaust and the effects of discrimination and Anti-Sentimism 
-traveling to different countries, immersing myself in European culture 

The donation will help cover:

-transportation 
-food/groceries
-hotel before the Centropa conference
-rent in Amsterdam 
-travel insurance
-emergency fund
-touring
