“What’s The Best That Can Happen?”: Clorena’s Story
For anyone who asks me to ‘describe Clorena’ the first words that come to mind are wife, mother, educator, passionate, beautiful, caring, thrifting queen, cheerful, loving, resilient and strong. I was fortunate enough to have met Clorena nearly 10 years ago while attending University of Cincinnati. Clorena’s radiant personality and positive outlook on life immediately drew me to her. Over the past decade I have watched Clorena change the lives of so many young adults through education, become a wife to her husband, Jon, and a mommy to her two beautiful daughters, Phoenix and Zara. Clorena is also an avid thrifter who chooses to shop secondhand to lead a sustainable lifestyle. But even with leading a sustainable life, sometimes thing happen that are just out of our control…

On May 20, 2020, Clorena was diagnosed with Stage 3A Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Instead of celebrating her 30th year around the sun, Clorena now faces one of her biggest challenges yet: BEATING CANCER. In order to bring awareness to and advocate for advocate for young Black African American women diagnosed with breast cancer, Clorena shares her journey with the world via her Instagram page (@mama_likes_adeal). Clorena shares content ranging from her cancer journey to thrifting hauls and giveaways to family time and #plantlife - and always with a smile on her face. Clorena is a fighter and finds the good in everything - even in her current challenge.

As you all can imagine, battling cancer isn’t an inexpensive feat. Unfortunately, for most Americans, insurance does not fully cover the costs of treatments. Clorena has 6 more rounds of chemo equaling more than 12,000 out of pocket fees - not including her upcoming double mastectomy (#ThriftedBoobies) and 6 weeks of daily radiation. Clorena has created a clothing line (What’s the Best That Can Happen? And Fight) and continues to resale thrifted clothing to raise additional funds, however, there are still financial gaps. Clorena needs our help to make sure she WINS her battle against Cancer. Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated.  Everything we can do to help and surround her with love is what is most important.  Please spread the word.

Because, afterall, the BEST that can happen is kicking cancer’s butt and continuing to bless us all with her presence for years and years to come <3
