Don Hancock's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Don had a colonoscopy in May of 2016. It came back showing three masses in his colon. Three Dr appointments were made w/ three different Dr's.  Dr Vigerottie, radiologist, Dr Wellander, surgeon,& Dr Mercer, oncologist. Between the three, the recommendation was 6 weeks of chemo & radiation. Though, before all of that was to start, a special colonoscopy was to be done in Iowa City that would give a much more detailed image of the masses.

After the six weeks we're finished, a CT Scan & MRI was done & those were not pleasing. Those came back showing two masses in his right lung. Don's surgeon got him into another surgeon, Dr Proctor. Because of the location of the masses, they could not biopsy the masses, though, Dr Proctor was certain they were cancerous. On Friday, Dec 17th, Don went in to have half of his right lung removed. While in surgery, Dr Proctor ended up taking 3/4 of the lung because she found another mass. Don did have some complications in ICU after surgery, though, they were able to get those under control w/ medication. He was in the hospital for six days.

Another CT Scan & MRI was done. The results showed all of the cancer was gone in the lung, however, the colon cancer had returned. No tumors were present, just high levels of active cancerous cells. Don was given the option of surgery, to have a colostomy bag for the rest of his life, or, try a much more intense round of chemo. Don chose the chemo.

In Feb of 2017, he had surgery to have a port put in his right shoulder blade. This is where his chemo would be put into. A week later, he started his six months of chemo. Every other Monday, Don goes into the Cancer Center of Iowa & has a two and a half hour chemo drip there & is sent home w/ a 46 hour drip, which he has to carry a pack around his waist for.

Don will finish his chemo in August of 2017. He'll then have another CT Scan & MRI to see if this has killed all the cancerous cells.

Money contributed will help Don and Stacy pay for the mounting medical bills they are faced with.
