Doug had an injury many years ago to his back that required surgery, and it was a tough time.
After enjoying about seven years of no pain and no problems with his back, Doug is suffering awful pain with ruptured discs, stenosis and arthritis. The disc and inflammation is causing horrible pain, as well as numbness and limiting complete mobility in one foot for sure, and possibly the other as well.
He was almost better a few weeks ago, after 2 epidurals, but a physical therapy session he had set him waaay back, making his pain and numbness much worse than it had been prior to the physical therapy session.
Because of that, he was in the hospital for a couple of days this past week in just agonizing pain. He's trying hard to be a tough guy, but this thing is a monster. It's tough to watch.
He makes his entire living playing guitar with live performances. He's had to miss many jobs recently and will likely be missing more. Insurance is not covering all of the treatment that he needs (epidurals etc.) and savings are getting eaten up quickly.
I love Doug, my friend and partner of many years, very much, as do lots of our friends...I hate to see him suffering. The added stress of medical and life expenses is rough.
Doug and I were scheduled to play Bearno's by the Bridge this weekend. He wont be able to do it. Instead, at George Timmering (Bearno's owner) suggestion, we're going to have a fundraiser this Saturday night (thanks Georgie-poo). I'd love if you can make it!
