Westies without sugar

Donation protected

Westies That Need Help Rescue is a charity very close to my heart . Although a small rescue, it is run by a dedicated, passionate, compassionate group of people who give their time, energy and sometimes own funds to help save many dogs ( mostly Westies, but not all) each year.

Many of these dogs have been used as puppy farm breeding bitches, - kept cruelly in cages without proper light, warmth, nutrition or veterinary care. Emotionally and physically these dogs need a lot of love and care to help them heal.

As many of you will know, we adopted Elsie in the photograph above over a year ago now. She had spent the best part of 6 years kept in a cage, being forced to breed and was extremely vulnerable and traumatised. I will never forget visiting her for the first time, - seeing her deadened eyes, withered hind legs, her ground down and missing teeth, her fragility. She looked so broken and helpless and it broke my heart to see such a beautiful  creature in such distress.

Without the rescue, I dread to think what would have happened to her, whether she would have been shot ( which happens) or ended up spending her remaining life suffering. These people do tremendous work to help save these dogs, who with a bit of love become the most wonderful companions.

I am pleased to say Elsie has blossomed over the past year. She’s put on weight, increased her muscle tone, and healed physically, although she will always have hearing and balance problems to some degree. She is the most loving, trusting, sweet creature and I can’t thank the rescue enough for saving her life and giving me and my family the chance to share our lives wither.
Each dog rescued by the charity is given individual care and attention . After being taken  to be groomed and receive veterinary care, which often includes being spayed, the dogs are kept with dedicated foster carers to be observed and safely cared for until the right home is found for them.
In order to keep saving these wonderful dogs, constant fundraising is necessary as medical care does not come cheap. I have therefore  pledged to forgo sugar for a whole year ! As a confirmed pudding and chocoholic this won’t be easy ( sugar seems to be in everything !) but I am determined to try to raise as much as I can to help as many dogs as I can . Please donate to this wonderful cause, these little dogs deserve a second chance. They didn’t choose to be used and abused and they are  relying on us to help them . Thank you .
