West Cambridge Rowing Needs Your Help
This past spring, West Cambridge Coach Mark Grinberg and seven dedicated kids started a new rowing club on the Charles River. In two boats, a girls 4+ and boys lightweight double, they trained tirelessly through the spring. They pushed each other to new heights, dreaming of what this new program could be. Their goal was to qualify for USRowing Youth Nationals in Sarasota FL.
After months of hard work (fun!) the 2017 USRowing Northeast USRowing Championships arrived last week. A top three finish in their respective events would qualify the boats for the National Championship.
The boys lightweight double with Owen and Drew Niles led the field the whole weekend, finishing first through time trials and semifinals. They continued this trend into the final, securing first place and a bid for the National Championship.
The girls four with Julian Green, Melissa Bazakas-Chamberlain, Casey Reed, Elizabeth Deese, and Emma Gharibian worked tremendously hard all spring. They made it to the semi finals but were ultimately nudged out of a qualifying spot in one of the most competitive races of the day. All four girls and their coxswain, Julian Green, improved tremendously over the course of the season and are looking forward to continuing with the program.
Here is where you come in! While we are excited to have qualified for Nationals in just the first season of our program, we don't have the funding to fully cover all the expenses associated with the trip. We need your help to get Drew and Owen to Nationals and to help the team provide scholarships for the Summer and Fall rowing season. At West Cambridge, we're committed to building well-rounded individuals and top tier athletes. We need your help to continue investing in the top rowers of tomorrow.
