West Macs Monster Ultra Marathon

My Name is Ben Mack - Skin Name - Kemarre/ Tjakamarra, I am an Arrernte man from Mparntwe, Central Australia, and I have signed myself and three others up to a Monster Challenge – ‘The West Macs Monster Ultra Marathon’, a 231km race over country along the world renowned Larapinta Trail, Northern Territory. Please see link here (https://westmacsmonster.com.au/). We need help buying the gear that is mandatory in order to race. As it is so remote there is a bit of a list. Your money will be used to purchase items for the race i.e. Hydration Packs, Maps, Tracking Devices, First Aid Kits, Running Gear, etc. Someone has already sponsored us for the entry (registration) fee so we are already on our way. This race I believe could be the beginning of something big for my mob just like the 'Indigenous Marathon Project' and what that has done to change the lives of so many indigenous people. For me this is one of the best ways for our mob to reconnect with country. It is a great opportunity to show my mob that they too can live a healthier more positive life! I have overcome some challenges in my own personal life i.e. alcoholism, smoking, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, obesity and depression just to name a few. At my heaviest I tipped the scales at 144kg. Once I set my mind to do something it is done! We are the FIRST EVER Aboriginal Team to enter this event and are the very first team to enter next years race…that is how serious we are! I plan on running this event every year in the hope I can inspire others to do the same, the gear that is purchased through sponsorship and/ or donation will be used annually. By supporting us in our endeavours you too can be a part of history in the making. We are grateful for any support that we receive big or small.
