Wes Ronan's recovery

On February 20 Wes Ronan suffered a hemorrhagic stroke while he was at his shop prepping food for the day, thankfully Sara, his girlfriend, was there with him and he received medical attention swiftly. He was rushed to St Louis University from St. Joseph’s in Breese. From there we learned he had suffered a brain bleed that was too close to his brain stem to operate and we would have to “watch and wait” and hope for the bleeding to stop and the swelling to stay under control. Due to the nature of this process it has left Wes with physical impairments with speech, hearing and vision including his ability to feel the left side of his body.
Each day a slight amount of improvement is seen, he has started speech, occupational and physical therapy. Over the past few days he has regained some sensation in his limbs and the therapist can feel muscles firing as he tries his best to move his extremities. He was able to stand with assistance of 2 therapist using his strong arm and leg for stability. The neurologist are hopeful his senses will continue to improve over time. His muscle movement in his face is better allowing for his speech to be clearer and he says his double vision has gotten slightly better as well. His hearing is still bothersome to him, he describes it as an echo when he hears people talking. Wes is a 33 year old entrepreneur who has started his own catering business, Silver Spoon, 4 years ago and just in the last 6 months opened up his store front. He is one of the hardest working men you have ever met, often catering several events in one weekend and going right back to his daily business hours during the week at Silver Spoon. He is selfless, has a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, which is why we all know and love him so much. With such a blow to his physical state Wes will require long term rehabilitation services. Intense daily therapy from all aspects of physical, occupation and speech are going to be necessity. He is strong willed, stubborn and will fight every day to regain his strength. He would never imagine asking for a dime or sympathy from anyone for any reason, he has always managed to succeed on his own.
So we as his family and friends are setting up this in his name to help fund his medical expenses so he can have the best care possible. We are unsure of how long he will need inpatient rehabilitation services, but we all want to ensure he has adequate and appropriate care as this will affect his long term prognosis. Even after inpatient he will likely require outpatient therapy ongoing for some time. With so many worries for Wes we would like to be able to ease his concerns on at least one aspect of this tragic incident. Help us support Wes through this journey of recovery. Even now as he sits in the hospital after all that is happening he is thinking of others and how this event will affect them and their lives.
