On September 10th, category 4 hurricane Irma hit the Florida keys, devastating Big Pine Key, where my family (mom, sister/hubby, niece & nephew) lives. Although the house technically still stands, the ceiling has collapsed and mold has settled in due to the elements. Anything stored on the lower storage level was washed away in the flood surge. They are trying to salvage what they can, but it isn't much.
So at this point they are all safe but have lost their housing, a car and most of their belongings. While they continue to evaluate, try to salvage what they can and work with the insurance companies, the known needs are:
- Funds to acquire temporary housing for at least the next several months
- A good used car to replace the one lost in flood waters
- Funds to help make a dent in the insurance deductibles (one deductible is almost as much as a brand new car)
If you have any connections that would help with the temporary housing (e.g. trailers), please let us know. Although eventually other physical items such as clothes and housewares may help, they don't have any way to accommodate these items until temporary housing is secured and they can evaluate their space.
So many people have been displaced or suffered loss from the three major hurricanes this year. If you are inclined to help one of the many families in need, my family would truly appreciate it as they work through the long recovery process.

I have set up this GoFundMe campaign to enable my sister to withdrawl funds directly for their recovery needs.
