Wendell is a graduate of Crossville High School, Class of 1971. Wendell served in the United States Air Force from 1972-1974, and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Era.

Wendell went into public service for 18 years. First serving with the Gadsden Police Department as Sergent and later as Range Master. He also served with Southside Police Department, and the Attalla Police Department. To further his education Wendell enrolled at Gadsden State Community College, and received his
Associates Degree in Mechanical Design 1997. He, his wife Diane and daughter Kristi moved to Lawrenceville GA, so Wendell could pursue a career in this field.

Since moving to GA, both Wendell and Diane have been plagued with health problems.  Wendell was diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes in 1997, and suffered a severe heart attack in 2003 requiring open heart surgery . After recovering from open heart surgery he took a job in Seally Texas.

While working in Texas, he developed a blister on his foot and eventually had to have his leg amputated below the knee.  That same year Diane was diagnosed with Leukemia. She is currently in remission.

Wendells health has been on a continuous downward spiral, especially in the last 6 months. He has been in Northside Hospital and Glancey rehab center since August 22.

He has had a stroke, been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure , and Chronic  Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease.

Since August 22, he has had another heart attack, which required a heart cath. He has had 3 surgeries on his right leg to improve the blood flow to his toes and foot, in hopes to save the leg. Unfortunately, the graphs did not work, and on Friday October 20, he had to have the right leg amputated. Making him a double amputee.

Wendell is again in rehab, working on upper body strength, to be able to maneuver from chair to bed, etc. so he can return home.  We are trying very hard to help Diane and Wendell move back to Gadsden area so they will be near family  and friends to help with day to day care.
