Theresa Pirtle Leftwich Cancer Fund

My beautiful aunt Theresa (for whom I was named) has cancer. Since being diagnosed last year, she and her husband, David, have been financially decimated, even with insurance, savings, and working whenever she can.
Anyone who knows her well knows we had to BEG her amidst great protest to let us ask for help on her behalf. :)
She is a woman of infinite kindness and generosity who has worked tirelessly on behalf of those in need. For the past 23 years she has worked in nonprofit agencies as a director, CEO, advocate, and grant writer/fund raiser to help victims of rape, child abuse, domestic and family violence. She has testified before various legislative committees for laws on protective orders, crime victims' compensation, tenants' rights for domestic violence and sexual assault, and teen dating violence. On more than one occasion she was told her testimony was the most powerful and significant reason the law was passed.
Numerous times during her career she has put her life in jeopardy to help rescue those in danger, in addition to giving thousands of dollars of her own money to help others. During the years of rearing her young children she was known to ''adopt'' elderly neighbors as though they were family and help them as such.
In addition to her work in nonprofits, she is a master gardener, proponent of organic gardening and manages a Bed and Breakfast during Canton's First Monday Trades Days. A lover of books, music, art and travel, her greatest love is her family, second only to God.
Medical bills are now the number one reason for bankruptcy in the USA. She will need to travel to M.D. Anderson in Houston for treatments at least every other week for several days at a time over the next few months. David will need to take time from work to accompany her. The upcoming deductibles, co-pays, and travel expenses are enormously overwhelming, especially on their drastically reduced income. During this time she will need all her strength to heal and we don't want her to worry about work or finances.
She has given SO MUCH to others her entire life. Now is the time for us to give back to her. THANK YOU for any little bit you can give to help out, and please keep her in your prayers.
