More information about WELOVECARERS LTD:
WeLoveCarers provides information, help, support, signposting and so much more to unpaid carers throughout the Dudley borough. Our CHAOS! Project is the biggest specialist play service in the region, providing fantastic and unique play experiences to some amazing children.

We moved into our new base in September 2019, at the Mary Stevens Centre, and we are hoping to renovate the rooms. As they haven’t been used for a while, some of the walls and floors need updating and the rooms themselves are empty, so we have no furniture. Even though we moved in over a year ago, we have been unable to furnish it properly, due to COVID-19 and the financial restrictions that also came with it.

We are a small, independent charity, whose funding has been impacted over the course of 2020. We have not been able to run our usual play-schemes, groups for carers, or fundraising activities, as a result, and therefore, we have not received the money needed to implement the changes we would like to see to our new base.

Some rooms we are hoping to create are the therapy room, a training room, sensory room, a kitchen, and a carers lounge. These would all be wheelchair accessible, as well as accessible in the day to carers of all ages.

What these rooms would include:

Therapy Room

We already have a trained counsellor within the charity, and the project itself is well-accessed by carers. Therefore, we would like to develop a therapy room on the premises. This will be somewhere a carer can meet with a therapist or counsellor in a safe environment, and we would like the finances to make it comfortable for everyone who accesses it, as well as having the resources, equipment, and furniture needed for every aspect of counselling/therapy that will be conducted on the premises.

Carers Lounge

We’ve always prided ourselves on having a comfortable space for carers to meet and rest. However, after the closing of our last building- Insight, we were unable to find a permanent base for us to do this again. Now we have the Centre, we are able to furnish a room where carers can have some ‘me’ time or meet other carers, where they are able to relax and unwind. We will do this by placing it next to the library, where they can access free literature of all kinds, games, and puzzles, and we will have a selection of music available to the carer to choose from. Even though some of these can be donated, in order to fully furnish the room, we would still need financial support so we are able to fully reach our vision of what we want this room to be.

Sensory Room

As we have been donated soft play items, we would like to set up a sensory room, but we would like to furnish it with the appropriate equipment for a sensory room, such as lighting, floor and wall padding, etc. Therefore, we would like to include this on the donation list, so this room is available to all children and carers who access the charity.

Kitchen

Howden’s have kindly donated adjustable work surfaces for us to implement a disabled-friendly kitchen. However, we still need the kitchen utensils needed for it to be fully furnished. The reason we would like a kitchen is so carers, including young carers, can access it for training sessions; disabled people will be able to access it also, as all kitchen units will be adjustable; and we, as a charity, would like to be able to provide meals for carers who are in need, and for charity events. As a result, it would be incredibly helpful to have this room available, not only to us, but for our carers and for those they care for.

Training and Meeting Room

We are always implementing further training for our staff, volunteers, and our carers. As a result, we would like to be able to furnish our own training room, which would assist us with the cost of not using other venues. In addition, part of our role as a charity is to meet with carers to help with support, and members of the local authority to discuss local policies that affect those with disabilities and their carers. To have a training and meeting room would be extremely helpful, as it would allow a more accessible base for the staff, carers, and volunteers, as well as any visitors. Therefore, we would like to be able to furnish a room for this purpose.
