On January 19th, 2018, six-year-old Scarlett's world was changed when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Cancer was not something Scarlett and her family ever thought that they would face.
Concerned with an on-going fever that Scarlett was fighting, her parents, Melanie and JJ, took Scarlett to her doctor - seeking further medical attention for what seemed like a strange but minor problem. After some tests, their doctor advised them to take Scarlett to the Children's Hospital immediately. It was at the Children's Hospital that oncology professionals did, in fact, verify that Scarlett was battling Leukemia.
Since, Scarlett has undergone several procedures (including cancer port surgery, chest x-rays, bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, and lumbar punctures) and is finishing her first bout of chemotherapy treatments. She has been approved for outpatient treatment. However, Melanie and JJ are often traveling back and forth, between home and the hospital, for ER visits and/or other treatment follow-ups.
They have had to completely alter the way they do life. They have had to limit visitation in their home and trips outside of the home in order to keep Scarlett as healthy as possible. While JJ is still trying to maintain a normal work schedule, Melanie has left her job as a teacher to care for their daughter and look after their three-year-old son, Maverick. They have also had to put many things on hold, including their ministry as youth pastors.
This family has always been a big part of their church and community. They have countlessly dedicated their time and support to those who needed it, and it is time we give back to them.
The money that we fundraise is desperately needed and will go toward:
- Medical costs not fully covered by insurance: ER visits, overnight stays, medications, procedures, and treatments.
- Fuel/gas as they travel back and forth for hospitals visits.
- Purchasing food and necessities while at the hospital.
- Mundane expenses, bills outside of medical, food and cleaning products for home, etc.
Scarlett has always believed in the power of prayer and Jesus Christ. We believe this beautiful and bright little girl will be healed. We ask that if you feel called to donate, please do.
