Taking Mom on the trip of her life

Donation protected
Sherry Geren is our inspiration! She's the kindest, most loving, amazing person we will ever know. She's our rock and our heart and our strength! She's our MOM!!

Mom was diagnosed a couple years ago with early onset Alzheimer's disease, she's at about a stage 5 or 6. It was a devastating blow! One we are still trying to reconcile. It has been rough, but we are strong, so we keep living and loving.

A couple of weeks ago, mom had a routine MRI and  we found out she had a brain tumor, after a few days of testing, we found out she had stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to the brain. She has a tumor in her motor functions and one on her brainstem. Besides the large mass in her left upper lobe, her lungs have many smaller spots. She has a undetermined nodule on her adrenal gland, that in the larger picture, means nothing because of the aggressiveness and severity of the brain and lungs.

The prognosis is very poor. With some treatment, Steriotactic Radio Surgery and Chemo they "hope" to buy us 6 month to a year. Realistically 6 months. Without treatment we are looking at 2-4 months, with an emphasis on 2. The Radiation oncologist says that he will not recommend whole brain radiation because of the dementia. He says she would have 0 quality of life, so he opted for the SRS. He thinks after 5 treatments to each tumor are finished we will have bought us a couple of months, except that we are 2 treatments in and she hasn't tolerated either one. We have no idea where we stand with treatments right now.

Yellowstone! All 3 of us kids have heard from our parents, since we can remember, about how much they wanted to go to Yellowstone. It is the epitome of everything they Love! God at his finest! I don't know why they love this place that they've never been, but it seemed to call to them.

We would like to rent an R.V. and take her to Yellowstone. We want to do this for her as much as for ourselves.  We would love to see her beautiful face, lighting up and enjoying the beauty of the wilderness. Seeing in person all of the things she had hoped to see.

Don't get me wrong, this trip is in celebration of my mom, but it is just as much for us, it is something that will make the pain a little easier to bear, something we can hold onto forever.

We need to make memories. If we had more time we wouldn't need to ask for help, but with or without treatment, our time is ending far too quickly.

Because we don't know exactly how much time we have we plan on going Sept 12-16. Anything will help, Thank you.
