WE ARE IN THE FIGHT WITH KO
Standing Together Through the Toughest Battle of His Life
He is a man with many names.
A son who has brought pride to his parents.
A brother who has always protected his siblings.
A father whose children are his world.
A grandfather — lovingly called Thata — who melts at the sound of his grandkids’ laughter.
A Koko and Tío to countless nieces and nephews.
And to many of us… a loyal, dependable, and irreplaceable friend.
Angel “KO” has always been a fighter — but not just in the gym or on the track riding bikes. He’s fought for his family, his friends, his community. He’s shown up when people needed him, giving his time, his strength, and his heart without hesitation.
Today, the man who has spent his life fighting for everyone else is facing a battle so great… he cannot face it alone.
A Sudden Turn
What began as a bad headache turned into every family’s nightmare. Angel thought it was just a severe migraine. But within days, his pain became unbearable, forcing him to the hospital.
Over the course of a seven-day stay, his condition worsened then, without warning, he lost some vision in one eye.
Doctors moved quickly. Emergency MRI scans revealed a large tumor sitting at the base of his brain, wrapping around his optic chiasm (the center point of the optic nerves) and dangerously encasing major arteries that supply blood to his brain.
The tumor’s location and spread mean the stakes could not be higher — without treatment, Angel faces:
• Total blindness
• Life-threatening strokes
• Irreversible neurological damage
The Fight for His Life
Angel’s neurosurgical team has developed an aggressive, multi-stage surgical plan involving three separate brain surgeries, each high-risk but necessary to save his life and preserve his vision.
1. Stage One Save His Sight
• Goal: Relieve the pressure on his optic nerves and chiasm to preserve what vision remains.
• Approach: A delicate microsurgery requiring precision to avoid damaging fragile brain structures.
2. Stage Two – Protect His Brain’s Lifelines
• Goal: Remove tumor tissue wrapped around the arteries in his brain, reducing his stroke risk.
• Approach: Advanced micro-dissection with specialized monitoring to prevent blood vessel rupture.
3. Stage Three – Final Removal & Reconstruction
• Goal: Remove remaining tumor tissue, repair the skull base, and restore function as much as possible.
Following surgery, Angel will face months possibly over a year — of recovery, rehabilitation, and continuous medical monitoring.
The Reality No One Talks About
These surgeries come with enormous risks but also enormous costs. Angel will be unable to work, meaning no income while the bills from hospital stays, surgeries, specialist visits, and medications keep coming.
And beyond the medical side, the emotional toll on his family is crushing. His children and grandchildren are clinging to hope, praying they’ll hear his voice, see his smile, and feel his hugs for years to come.
