Miracles for Mike Hakeman

There's a saying..."Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Love always!" Some people just fight harder! I have been fortunate enough to be a small part of the journey of Mike Hakeman. Mike was diagnosed with sinonasal carcinoma with brain involvement. Mike underwent chemotherapy which decreased blood levels making it unsafe for the surgery necessary to remove the tumors. This led to a hurry up and wait scenario in which Mike's course of treatment was complicated by infections, blood clots, multiple doctors appointments, rehospitalizations and extreme deconditioning. Mike finally made it through a 12 hour brain surgery and is now on the long road to recovery. As one could imagine those cost's are monumental! Couple that with the transportation, 2 college aged children, housing costs and Val's inability to work to be able to care for Mike full time is enough to break even the richest of rich and toughest of tough! I haven't known Mike (or Val) for very long, but in the time I have known them, they have been nothing short of caring, giving, and flat out fighters! I have talked to Mike a couple times about his fight. I have never seen someone so determined to beat cancer! Mike and his family have touched a number of us in different ways. Now is our turn to pay it back! Any little bit will help! And if you can't afford to donate, always say a prayer... They don't cost a thing! God bless!
