Mickey was born on February 1, 2019 with Tracheoesophageal Fistula and Esophageal Atresia. His esophagus was in two separate segments and was connected abnormally to his trachea. This meant his esophagus was not connected to his stomach. At two days old, Mickey underwent extensive surgery to separate his esophagus from his trachea and attach his separated esophagus to his stomach. Since then, he’s had procedures to examine his larynx and trachea, and dilate his esophagus. He will need procedures throughout infancy to continue dilating his esophagus.

During his last procedure, Mickey was diagnosed with a severe case of Tracheomalacia. This means his airway is floppy and collapses. When he cries or eats, it’s very hard for him to breathe and the common cold puts him in the ER.

From the NICU to the ER to the pediatric unit to the PICU, Mickey has experienced countless pokes, interventions and procedures. His resilience, fight and ability to smile is remarkable. His life is such an amazing gift
