Mijn lieve zusje Marijke is getroffen door een vreselijke ziekte, ALS. Om de kwaliteit van leven voor haar zo goed mogelijk te houden of hopelijk zelfs te verbeteren, is er geld nodig voor een nieuw, nog niet geregistreerd, medicijn uit Amerika en een spraakcomputer. We zoeken naar 24.000 euro waarmee ze dan twee jaar deze medicatie kan gebruiken.
Na zes dagen gebruik van het medicijn was Marijkes spraak al zo verbeterd dat het zelfs de logopediste, waar ze twee dagen eerder was, opviel. De rrrr spreekt ze weer goed uit (was het eerste dat ze niet meer kon) en stem is minder hees. Ook geeft ze aan meer lucht te hebben. Dit is alles is zeer hoopgevend! We hopen dat het slikken en het eten ook snel mag gaan verbeteren.
In december 2019 is voor dit medicijn een zogenaamde ODD (Orphan Drugs Designation, geneesmiddelen voor zeldzame ziekten) afgegeven door het Europees Geneesmiddelenbureau (ema.europe.eu). Dit betekent dat het product beschermd is als het op de markt komt. Het product moet nog wel door vele klinische trials. Het nadeel hiervan is dat in de praktijk het product niet vóór 2023 officieel op de markt zal komen, een tijdpad dat voor vele ALS-patiënten te lang is.
Tot die tijd is er een experimentele fase waar Marijke aan deelneemt. Doen jullie mee, om Marijke verder te helpen? Zodat de kwaliteit van leven verder omhooggaat? Misschien kun je 10 euro per maand missen? Of 5? Door middel van een automatische afschrijving kun je zo maandelijks bijdragen. Meer of minder mag natuurlijk ook. Of doe een eenmalige donatie. Wat nou ALS - What if...
My loving sweet sister Marijke has been affected by a terrible disease, ALS. To keep her quality of life as good as possible or hopefully improve it, money is needed for a new, unregistered drug from America and a speech computer. We are looking for 24,000 euros so that she can use this medication for two years.
After six days of using this medication, Marijke's speech has already improved so much that even the speech therapist, with whom she was with two days earlier, noticed it. She can pronounce the rrrr almost as normal again (this was the first thing she couldn't do anymore) and her voice is less hoarse. She also notices she can breath better. This is all very hopeful! We hope that swallowing and eating will improve soon.
In December 2019, a so-called ODD (Orphan Drugs Designation, medicines for rare diseases) was issued for this medicine by the European Medicines Agency (ema.europe.eu). This means that the product is protected when it comes on the market. The product still has to go through many clinical trials. The downside of this is that in practice, the product will not officially hit the market before 2023, a time frame that is too long for many ALS patients.
Until then, there is an experimental phase in which Marijke participates. Can you participate in helping Marijke? So that her quality of life will improve further? Maybe you can miss 10 euros per month? Or 5? By means of an automatic debit you can contribute monthly. More or less is also welcome, of course. Or make a one-time donation.
