Walter's Legs Medical Fund

Meet Walter Rhubarb.

Walter is a six-year old rescue and my best friend, since adopting him five years ago. Sadly, Walter was born with an impairment known as angular limb deformity (ALD),  the result of poor breeding conditions and possible physical abuse in utero or as a puppy. As you can see, Walter's case is severe. It causes his right shoulder to bow outward, while his left leg twists almost 180 degrees, nearly pointing the paw backwards. By two and a half, when I adopted him, there was nothing to be done surgically to realign his bones.

Amazingly, until recently, Walter has been able to run and play like nothing is wrong. However, this is swiftly changing. Last week, Walter needed surgery to remove a fast-growing lump on his eyelid. While under anesthesia, his vet also x-rayed his legs to check any development of arthritis and joint decay. The results were not good. His front leg joints are riddled with bone, cartilage, and tendon irritation and damage clearly visible from the x-rays. Given the amount of irritation, we do not know how he is not in excruciating pain (maybe being a pit bull plays some factor in this?). What we do know is that Walter now needs significant physical therapy to focus on strengthening specific muscles in his legs and shoulders and we need to plan for when his front legs do not function at all, which could include a range of mobility aids, maybe even a wheeled cart.

Needless to say, this is sad, overwhelming, and expensive, especially as my own health has been in awful decline for the past three years and I am already in dire financial circumstances. Thus, to pay off both recent vet bills and, if I raise enough, to start a small fund for upcoming costs, this campaign aims to raise $2000 as soon as possible. It is my hope that, you, my friends, family, and generous members of the GoFundMe  community will join me in helping my best friend.
