Wakeman Caregiving Fund

Donation protected
Those of us who know Dick and Glenda Wakeman know of the life the two  have spent devoted to caring for their two mentally and physically handicapped daughters, Julie (43 years old )  and Robin (who passed away in 2014 at 38).

Although Robin has gone home to be with the Lord, the Wakemans still care for Julie, who requires 24/7 supervision.

Recently Glenda, who has been fighting cancer for many years, has suffered a setback and is now in need of care herself  . Now Dick is not only responsible for Julie’s “round the clock” needs but is also responsible for part of Glenda's nursing care as Glenda is now on hospice.

When Robin passed away, the Wakemans lost a significant part of the caregiving funds that they had been receiving from the government for both girls.

One of those provisions that the Wakemans lost when Robin passed away was for respite care funds. As anyone who cares for handicapped individuals knows, respite care is crucial to caregivers.

Additionally, the caregiver that helps Dick and Glenda with Julie was cut back to 4 days per week . Taking care of Julie is intense, constant and exhausting.  She regularly wakes up multiple times a night, every night. Normally it is hard enough when both Dick and Glenda are on duty, but without Glenda’s help it will be unsustainable for Dick to operate alone.

Part of the funds raised by this campaign will help secure more help from Julie’s specialized caregiver,  who has known and helped take care of Julie for the last 15 years. It will also provide some help with housecleaning.

This campaign was started so that friends of the Wakemans can help replace the lost caregiving funds in an effort to cover the Wakemans for the next 3 months. This should enable Dick to get the help he needs while Glenda is incapacitated.

While these funds will not solve the Wakemans long term needs it will give them a start while the future of Glenda’s health is uncertain.

While we trust that the Lord will provide for the Wakemans as He faithfully has for the past 43 years, we are honored to present this opportunity  to show the Wakemans how much they are loved and appreciated by their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Thank you so much for helping us love this family well!
