If you could take a moment from your busy day to imagine a scenario. Think of your everyday routine; what do you do from when you wake up in the morning, to how you end your day? Now picture your same daily routine without the existence of one very important element, water. That means no water for showers, cleaning, cooking, or drinking. What would your daily routine look like now? Every day having to worry about where you could get your next clean drink of water. Not to mention the violent, confusing, and terrifying place this would be without water.
This difficult scenario you just read about is what millions of people living in the townships of Cape Town are going through every day. Something people are not talking about on the news and over social media is the Cape Town water crisis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi8gR7v1X-M) Water levels in Cape Town have dropped to an almost fatal low. Currently, people living in Cape Town only have access to water at certain points of the day, usually only a few hours in the early morning. Currently, people are being asked to use only 13 gallons of water a day, that’s about enough water for a 1-and-a-half-minute shower. The Cape Town government has listed July 7th, 2018 as Day Zero, when water taps will be completely shut off, until further notice. This will mean millions of people will be without clean drinking water or any water for that matter.
This GoFund Me is created for the purpose of make a difference and creating a positive impact on the Cape Town Water Crisis. We are working to raise money to purchase and ship water to the Siyakhathala Organization in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Siyakhathala is an orphan support center that cares for, educates, feeds, and protects orphaned and vulnerable children living within Khayelitsha. Donating to this GoFund Me, you will help us supply the children at Siyakhathala with enough water to sustain them until a long-term solution has been implemented. By forgoing your weekly $5 Starbucks drink, we can easily raise this amount of money.
