Pop-Up Food Pantry Toolkit

Tax deductible
Food Insecurity is an all too hidden issue in the United States today. Many take for granted the vast food options available in most cities. Available and accessible, however, do not always come hand in hand.

Kelly’s Kitchen is a team of specialty food manufacturers and other experienced experts working to curb the food insecurity crisis by educating the public and formulating creative, cost-effective means of curbing the disproportionate effects of food insecurity on communities. Our history working with local farmers, restaurants, and the surrounding communities has exposed the ubiquity of food insecurity. Directly adjacent to farms and restaurants there can be communities unable to access healthy food.

In order to help solve this problem, we have created a concept that has proven to be remarkably effective. Our Pop-Up Food Pantries serve communities disproportionately impacted by food insecurity by hosting food drives, food deliveries, and social education events. We have hosted over a dozen food distribution initiatives like this.

This year, the coronavirus pandemic exacerbated all the effects of food insecurity on marginalized communities. We have expanded and adapted our efforts to meet the needs by adopting new methods of contact, identification, and no-contact delivery of our services.

Pop-up Food Pantries have been held in several states in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, and Iowa. We have also found that the same strategies can be utilized in responding to hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Achieving Food Sovereignty in communities around the country is an important aspect of what we try to accomplish. We are aware that food is an important aspect of cultures. Different cultures consume different foods and have separate dietary restrictions. Kelly’s Kitchen wishes to empower each community with the right tools to identify and reverse food insecurity.

Kelly’s Kitchen is looking to fund a Pop-Up Pantry Toolkit which will empower organizations to fill the needs created by food insecurity and disasters throughout the country.

With these funds, we will develop a professional toolkit with several parts including best-practices and FAQs compiled by writers with expert advisors from the field. These will detail effective strategies for procuring equipment, fundraising, and establishing partnerships. The finished Toolkit will be complete with infographics and illustrations by graphics artists to make all the information easy to digest. Our goal is to empower local stakeholder groups to create a tailored Pop-Up Food Pantry event for their community.

We need your help to make this project a reality. We hope to enable many more Pop-Up Food Pantries in the coming months. We believe this crisis is fixable given the resources in the United States. However, it takes all of us to fulfill this goal.
