Jessica DeLee Funding

A couple months ago Jessica started with headaches. It slowly progressed, and she told her mom to take her to the doctor. They kept telling her it was just tension headaches and to try to minimize the amount of stress she put on herself. They didn't run any tests or scans; they didn't event think that her excessive weight gain was a little unusual. The headaches continued to get worse and, because the doctor said it was just tension, Jessica didn't think anything of it. A couple weeks passed, and she figured it might be her eyes causing the headaches and that maybe she should look into getting glasses. As she went to get her eyes checked they could that the concave part of the eye was actually bulging outward. They then told her that she needed to see a retina specialist. The specialist checked Jessica out and told her that she had a tumor around her optic nerve which was causing issues to her peripheral vision. She was then referred to an ophthalmologist who said that she did not have any tumors behind her eyes and that they would not rule it out but aren't in a hurry to confirm it. One morning, Jessica woke up and could not take the pain anymore. Her mom brought her to the ER where they did some scans. The scans confirmed that Jessica had a mass in the middle of her brain that was causing fluid build and pressure. Jessica was then transferred to the Emergency Pediatric unit where she was monitored constantly. On April 25, 2019, Jessica had a permanent shunt placed to drain excess fluid in order to relieve pressure and pain; a biopsy was also performed on the mass.
